About me

What makes me tick?
Curiosity, mostly.

About new technology, and about the people who build it. Here’s how that took me from a business degree and a media company in Haarlem to young technology companies at BOM.

Studying

I studied Business Administration at VU Amsterdam. Its honours programme gave me the chance to go deeper in the evenings, with extra electives in financial modelling, sustainability and the impact side of business. Looking back, those are exactly the things that come together in what I do now.

Then came a business game: a consultancy case with Capgemini, a day and a half in a pressure cooker to work out the best market rollout for a new product line. I walked out with a scholarship to Nyenrode. There I went deeper into financials, and into digital business innovation, which taught me how online platforms and channels are built and used. I graduated cum laude, as valedictorian.

Media, and then language models

All through my studies I worked at Reshift Digital, a media company in Haarlem. I started out writing about technology for TechAcademy and Zoom.nl, and moved on into campaigns and content.

Then the large language models arrived. If you work in a content business, you don’t need much imagination to see what that means. So I dove in, fast: how could I use these models in my own work, and which parts of it could I hand over to them entirely? Quite a lot, it turned out. Most of my old job ended up automated, and I got to stay on as AI specialist.

That gave me the chance to build automations across the company: product texts for every page of Kieskeurig.nl, content workflows for other brands in the group, classification models to get the product data in better shape. And a fair bit more.

Investing

In 2025 I joined BOM as an investment trainee, and today I’m an investment analyst in the Key Technologies team. I get my energy from things that still have a bit of an edge to them: technology that isn’t finished yet, markets that are still taking shape. And from the founders. Smart people who have fallen for one particular problem and can talk about it for hours. I’m happy to listen, and to ask one more question.

More about that under Investment, and about Maven, which I lead together with Tom Teurlings, under AI applications.

Off the clock

Outside work you’ll find me in the gym, five times a week, give or take. My student years also left me with a group of friends from all over the world, which is the perfect excuse to hop on a plane now and then, around Europe and further, to go and see them.
