Maven
AI for our investment managers

Together with Tom Teurlings, AI specialist at BOM, I lead Maven: the toolkit that gives BOM’s investment managers more room to work with AI, in a safe and structured way.

What we see in the market

In our investment work at BOM, we see up close what AI is doing to young companies, and how fast it is going. Startups grow faster, with less.

A product that used to take a team months and a small army of developers, we now see built by two people with good market knowledge and a technical background, working together with AI. Not every company works that way yet. But it changes the pace, and the way founders build.

02

What it asks of us

That asks something of us as investment managers too. For me, and for BOM, the conclusion was to follow these developments closely, so we can keep serving startups well as they move faster and work differently. More of them will put AI to work, manufacturing companies included.

The investment managers who think along with those companies, and who have to act quickly in a market that keeps changing, need the right tools to do that well and safely. That is why we started Maven: to give them more possibilities with AI, in a safe and structured way.

03

How we went about it

We started by mapping the investment work as a whole, from the first lead to the exit. Then we went through it together, one step at a time, and asked at every step whether we could add something there, and whether part of it could be automated.

  1. Lead
  2. Quick scan
  3. Due diligence and investment
  4. Signing and closing
  5. In portfolio
  6. Exit

We also looked further than making the work we already do more efficient. How can we do more for the companies we work with? And how can we put BOM’s network to better use for them?
